California, Part Three ~ San Diego and The Grand Del Mar

On the final stop on our California trip, we headed south to San Diego to visit our son, Christopher. It isn't surprising at all that he loves living there - what a fantastic city!!

We totally hit the hotel jackpot on this trip...all three of our hotels were absolutely amazing!  For us, the most important part of any vacation experience is our hotel...suffice it to say, we had a great trip!

After reading stellar reviews, we decided to stay at The Grand Del Mar in San Diego, which is up in the canyons just east of the town of Del Mar.  We couldn't resist staying at the #1 Hotel in the US according to Trip Advisor and the #1 Resort in California according to Travel and Leisure (just a few of many awards and accolades). In case you were wondering how accurate those rankings are, I can honestly say this resort deserves every one of them!

This property is truly breathtaking at every turn...once again, my pictures show its remarkable beauty better than I could ever describe.  The owner built the resort in the style of Addison Mizner (architect of The Breakers) as influenced by the Mediterranean style of architecture. No doubt resorts will someday be built in homage to The Grand Del Mar as it is destined to become a classic.

So sit back and enjoy this virtual trip to The Grand Del Mar...a little slice of Europe in the hills of San Diego...

(Just as before, most pics are mine, a few are borrowed and sourced)

What do you think? Not too shabby, huh? Seriously, I could move right in!

Christopher showed us all of his favorite places...even his secret surf spots,  which I was sworn to secrecy never to divulge on my blog. Two highlights - the most delicious crab sandwiches ever at Point Loma Seafood and lunch practically on the sand at Jake's Del Mar. We fell in love the relaxed vibe of Del Mar and the stunning coastline of La Jolla. I could easily imagine living in either place...

Watch out, Christopher, your parents may be following you out west!

Not THE secret surf spot...but one of his other favorites in La Jolla...he is definitely living the good life!
By the way...if you are ready to head to Southern California yourself and follow my hotel recommendations, The Grand Del Mar is offering a third night complimentary and I just received an e-mail from the Montage Beverly Hills announcing a Friends and Family Offer - 50% off a second room. Easter in California, perhaps?

Have a fabulous weekend, everyone...wherever you may be wandering!

xoxo
