Happy May Day and Derby Weekend!

Can you believe it's May? I finally feel like Spring has sprung...our trees are flowering and, in the ultimate sign that it is almost summer, we opened our pool yesterday. And, tomorrow is my favorite event of the spring...Derby Day!

Some people wait for Super Bowl Sunday, others mark their calendars to watch Wimbledon, but for me, the first Saturday in May has always been my favorite sporting day of the year. Just as it has on every first Saturday in May since 1875, The Kentucky Derby will be run at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky this Saturday, and I can't wait. I love the pomp and circumstance, the crazy hats, the back stories about the horses and their owners, trainers and jockeys, and I always tear up when the band plays My Old Kentucky Home when the horses walk onto the track. For the record, I have picked the winner of the past two Kentucky Derbys - this year my pick is Dortmund.

I love visiting Kentucky - particularly during racing season. Go here for my Derby Day post from two years ago when I shared tips for getting the most out of a "horse" themed trip to Kentucky.
